Welcome to the Canberra Vikings Cycling Club
The Vikings aim to be a club that caters for and supports road cyclists of all levels. While we love to see our members being successful in races, we equally value participation, enthusiasm and contribution. This approach has resulted in our members winning no less than five world championships in road and track disciplines and multiple national championships. We are also looking forward to supporting our riders at the London Paralympics this year.
We run road bike races in and around Canberra, along with training and development programs for adults, juniors, and athletes with disabilities. Our members range from beginner cyclists to professional riders racing the UCI World Tour with teams including Rabobank and Garmin Barracuda.
Vikings is affiliated with Cycling Australia, meaning that members can enter road, track, and mountain bike racing events run by any CA affiliated clubs in the ACT or elsewhere in Australia.
If you are new, please look around the website, sign up to the V-Mail and feel free to contact us.
A note from the President
Welcome to 2012 and another big year of riding and racing!
2011 was always going to be a hard one to top for the club with Michael Matthew’s first year in the pro peloton and Nathan Haas’s domination of the men’s NRS. But what a great start to the year we’ve had so far! Most recent and perhaps most prominent was Mitch Lovelock-Fay’s GC win at the Tour of Thailand. Kayla Stevenson has won the sprint derby and took two second places at the NSW junior track titles – great results reflecting a lot of effort in training. The huge bag of medals the club collected at the ACT track champs is too big to go through individually. On the dirt, Libby Adamson finished 5th female (1st in her age group and 15th overall) at the Australian 24 hour MTB championships while Bec Henderson continues her rise to the top of the cross country scene.
As the incoming President, I'd like to thank the outgoing committee and particularly my predecessor Simon Claringbold. Simon was president since 2008 and has really developed the club into what it is today. His contribution has been tremendous.
I'll be trying to get around to as many different club events as possible and familiarise myself with our track, junior, masters and sportif groups, so please come and say hello. I'm always keen to hear from club members with ideas, criticism, compliments or whatever. Please feel free to email me at president@vikingscycling.org.au. But until then...
Happy riding!
