2017 Annual Awards & Christmas Ride

December 15, 2017

A wet morning for the Christmas Ride but some hardy souls made it out and some went straight to the cafe.

Annual Awards

The winners of the awards were:

Male & Female Novice of the Year – For the novice program graduates from the last 12 months who have show great dedication and improvement

Female – Honourable mentions: Gemma Claire (Hartley), Catherine Gatta & Laura Brisbane (trying out racing)

Michelle Rak – Our very own speed demon. Committed to going to Bright before the weather became an issue. She’s an enthusiastic climber. A good wheel with a commitment to developing her racing into the future

Male – Honourable mentions: Julian Bellati for being awesome

Aye Win – For his infectious enthusiasm. Came to the novice program with zero race experience and has gone on to bigger, better and stronger things – the only way is up!

Best Wheel – For the best wheel to follow in a race

Michael Ryan – Mr consistent. Even though he’s taken a slight backward step in his training this year, he’s still a fantastic wheel to jump on in a race. If you ever see him coming past, ask him to hang out the bungy chord so you can get a tow

Male & Female most Improved – Riders who have trained hard all year, participated in club racing, training and bunch rides and reaped the rewards for their efforts by demonstrating great gains over the past 12 months

Female – Honourable mentions: Lauren Thomas (track success, road racing in NRS)

Emma Padovan – Returning form significant injury and fairly serious crash can be regularly seen hammering away and pushing into the faster bunches belying her small frame

Male – Honourable mentions Kurt Andrews (Dev squad involvement, hard racing in Queens Bday and Nat Cap tours)

Conan Liu – Constantly trying to improve himself. Analysing every ride where he went well, where he could have shaved some time from his Strava segments

Soft Tern Award – For someone who is always at or near the front, but only pulls a short turn or a soft turn but then sprints past you at the sprint point or where the Strava segment is. Conan, you may be most improved, but you need to stop with the feather dusting and pull some turns on the front 🙂

Hardnut Award – For someone who goes over and above with their riding. The sort of person that makes you go ‘wow, you did that?’

Honourable mentions: Everyone who went to Bright or L’Etape in spite of the #stormageddon. Everyone who rode the Christmas ride this morning in the rain.

Nick Ardlie – no one we know is more committed to training and diet. Ruthlessly Disciplined. Wants to get the most out of himself – right down to the last gram

Meritorious Service Award – For someone who has shown dedication to the club over a long period of time

Jane Jones – Website, Membership, Novice, Dev program and race entry sites all with no fuss.

Club Members of the Year – For the greatest contributions to the club by general members over the past 12 months – volunteering, racing, training, contributing to club life

Brandie O’Connor – Worked hard with Women’s Development – coaching, training, rides, newsletters, encouragement

Sam Cunninghame – Taken on the role of novice coordinator, mentor, development squad rider, organiser, he’s an example to us all

An club jersey was presented to outgoing President Simon Tennent with his years of service embroidered into the sleeve.

A Special General Meeting was convened to unanimously confer Life Membership to Jane Jones for her long and exemplary contribution to the Club.
