Goulburn interclub wrap up

March 22, 2015

Race 1: Breadalbane Handicap

A typically windy day out at Breadalbane for a strong field of 61 open riders plus 11 juniors. Canberra’s Josh and Lauren Bates took out the u13 and u11 junior races, respectively.

In the open handicap event the last limit rider, a solo Lauren Robards, was only caught with 2km to go on the long straight by a big group consisting of four start bunches. A single scratch rider, Goulburn’s Troy Herfoss, had quietly snuck across to this bunch, now the front of the race, and in the closing kilometres attacked solo. Troy held off the bunch to take the win and fastest time, with the big bunch sprint taken by the Vikings’ Glenn Moorby over Mark Langman. The rest of scratch were looming, just 7 second behind. Great handicapping by Goulburn’s Chris Berry and Adam Kiss!

Interclub points were 29 to Vikings, 16 to Goulburn and 8 to Canberra – a close result as just one Goulburn rider taking the 2nd, 3rd or 4th place would have swung the points.

Thanks to the Goulburn Cycling Club for being so welcoming and putting on such a great event. Special thanks to the GCC volunteers: Brian Rawlinson, Steve Watts, Daniel Thompson, Belinda Emmerton, Lavina Huggett, Phil Bush, Graeme Northey, Freda Bush.

Race 2: Stromlo to Condor Scratch

We had 61 riders turn out for the second leg of the VCC-GCC-CCC interclub weekend.

By all accounts people enjoyed racing in the cool overcast conditions. The course was quite hilly including the Three Sisters and Urriara Crossing climbs, with ABC grades also getting the full Condor Creek climb.

Thanks to our friends at Goulburn Cycling Club for making the trip to Canberra, and to Canberra Cycling Club for making this a good-spirited three-way rivalry.

Special thanks to the very professional and well organised assistants this morning- Simon Dwyer, Glen Moorby, Seb Lacrampe and Lyn Vasudeva. Thanks also to Matt Haddock who stepped in to be the impromptu finish chute recorder and to Simon Lai who helped with finish line timing.

Points from todays racing were: Vikings 88, Canberra 69, Goulburn 9.
