Group of cyclists riding as a bunch

Entries are now open for the Spring Novice Program

August 18, 2022

We are excited to announce that our popular Novice program is back this spring! The 8-week program will start from 5 September and go until 26 October 2022. There will be a race group on Mondays and a gran fondo/sportif group on Wednesday.

Each group will be limited to 15 so get in quick! The full program costs $150, which includes a free Vikings Cycling Club jersey valued at over $90!

We are also looking for club members to help mentor at the sessions – keep an eye out in our Vmail for more information.

Information night

We will be holding an information night from 6pm on Wednesday 24 August at the Verandah Alivio Tourist Park, and afterwards the pizza will be on us!

It’s a great opportunity to learn more about the program and meet a few of your fellow novices and existing club members. You will find out what you need, what it’s like and any other questions you have will be answered to the best of our ability.

Which group is right for you?

To participate in the program you will need to:

  • Have AusCycling membership (Race licence or Lifestyle)
  • Register for your preferred group through EntryBoss.

We recommend only signing up for the program if you can commit to attend at least the first 2 weeks. If you miss these sessions we have found that riders will not have enough confidence to participate fully in the rest of the program.

Race group – Mondays

If you are interested racing or riding with the faster groups, the Monday session will be best for you. Generally this group will be fit enough to keep up the the M1 or M2 groups in our Norman bunch rides.

Starting on Monday 5 September, this group is for anyone who is also interested in the racing aspects of the sport and is reasonably fit. Sign up here.

With SuperCrits starting on Thursday 6 October, what better time to start building those race skills!

Gran Fondo/Sportif group – Wednesdays

If you are newer to riding or prefer a more social pace, the Wednesday session will be best for you. Generally this group will have a similar pace to the M3 or lifestyle groups in our Norman bunch rides.

Starting on Wednesday 7 September, this group is for anyone who is more interested in learning how to ride in a bunch on the road or building up their fitness for Gran Fondos or sportifs. Sign up here.

Please share with anyone you know who’d be interested in the program, or even sign up if you are new to bunch riding and haven’t done the program!
